GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS:
The purpose of the class is to assist the Systems Analyst in the daily operation of the library's automation system. The class is responsible for providing internet and e-mail accounts and customer service to staff and library patrons.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Monitors and assists in maintaining library computer network.
Sets-up- e-mail accounts for staff.
Provides technical support for staff and library patrons.
Receives and evaluates bids for computer hardware and software.

DATA INVOLVEMENT:
Requires coordinating or determining time, place or sequence of operations or activities based on analysis of data or information and may implement and report on operations and activities.

PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:
Requires counseling or instructing/ training others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice or makes recommendations based on technical expertise.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:
Requires leading, operating or repairing complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience such as electronic telecommunications equipment, complex software used for programming custom applications; or the application of custom or administrative or other complex software or systems; may involve installation and testing.

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
REASONING REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing work involving the application of logical principles and thinking to solve practical problems within or applying to a unit or division of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the use of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/ or calculate ratios, rates and percents.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires reading technical instructions and procedures manuals; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms, and business letters, with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing specialized technical or entry level professional work requiring general understanding of operating policies and procedures and their application to problems not previously encountered; application of specialized technical or professional principles and practices or the use of a wide range of administrative methods in the solution of problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

VOCATIONAL/ EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION
VOCATIONAL/ EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with emphasis in computer science or a closely related field.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES:
Valid Texas Drivers License.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires over one year and up to and including two years.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.

The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking.
